Waiting for the Flood

The Wisconsin River has begun to rise above flood stage north of Wisconsin Dells and is predicted to do so south of Wisconsin Dells near Portage as well.  Some news reports are predicting flooding equal to the devastating 1993 floods.  Of course we’ll have to just wait and see.  For the moment Columbia County is under a flood warning. The National weather service in Milwaukee/Sullivan has issued a flood warning for the Wisconsin river at the city of Portage. At 4:00 am today the stage was 14.6 feet. Flood stage is 17.0 feet. Moderate flooding is forecast. Forecast, rise above flood stage by after midnight tomorrow and continue to rise to near 18.9 feet by Monday morning. The Blackhawk park area in Portage is seeing some flooding now and expecting it only to get worse over the next few days.
