White Elephant?

hhaven

Opinion – Now let me see if we have this straight.  The Sauk County Homeless Haven is closed to remove asbestos, there is no on-site manager, and they have fired Betty Kruger who has been the major force behind providing shelter for the homeless in our area since practically the dawn of time, simply to “bring in new blood?”  Is that it?  Interestingly, yesterday while at the post office on personal business we came across two formal “residents” who cannot seem to get their mail because it’s going to the haven and they can’t get a hold of anyone to do anything about it.

Now here’s the thing.  I don’t know what the politics are here, and I can’t say that in a chance encounter at the post office that I can guess what effort these folks were able to make to contact anyone,  but in the end it really does not matter.  When there are people in need out there and those who put themselves up as their caretakers get tangled up in some sort of press worthy power trip,  it’s beyond aggravating and not just a little disappointing. Instead of re-arranging their political dominoes at the moment, they should do something to help the homeless who don’t have the luxury of meeting over coffee and sticky buns to fire anyone at all.

  • Opinion-First of all, I think the one writing the white elephant story should get their facts straight before writing something that could me misconstrued as something its not.Moving forward on a large project as this is came with unexpected financial decisions made by poor information by outside sources and a lack of knowledge to move a house of that magnatude.I only speak for myself and in saying, please get your facts straight regarding financial, management issues and what is opinion and fact with clients and other agencies outside of Homeless Haven. The fact is the house will open as soon as it can and has a new outlook for the next 19 years and beyond.

Thank you for taking time to comment.

If there are facts to get straight I think it is important to get them out there. My thoughts, as well as quite a few others are simply based on the information provided. If you stand back and simply read the news story http://www.wiscnews.com/baraboonewsrepublic/news/local/article_97b1ca72-93b4-11df-994d-001cc4c03286.html, or what little is actually been said through your facebook page, it looks like interpersonal issues have overshadowed the mission. Call it bad PR or whatever, but it certainly does not read well. As someone else commented, it “looks” like change for changes sake and not necessarily for the better. Again, people are going to feel that way if they are not told in very specific ways why this IS better. Right now all the general public can see is a staff shuffle and a pig roast. There is little in these stories about what people in need are to do in the meantime. Just stating what provisions for the homeless are being made while homeless haven is closed would bring some balance to the story. I’m sure we all want the same thing in the end, and that is to provide help to those in need. If we don’t have the “facts”, then please by all means.. share.
