Featuring Parkway Motel

The Parkway motel is not often the first place to come to mind when looking for lodging in the Wisconsin Dells area. In truth, for most small family owned motels in Wisconsin Dells it’s pretty hard to be heard above the din. Some say small family owned businesses are not going to be around much longer in Wisconsin Dells. Who Knows!? But if you’re looking for something truly unique, you’ll want to find them. Over the years I’ve worked with many of these small businesses and am going to take some time as we progress through the year to share a few with you. Parkway Motel on Wisconsin St. in Wisconsin Dells is a great place to start.

Parkway is owned by an east european family, one of many actually who came to the Wisconsin Dells to start their own business and write their uniquely American story. As soon as you walk into the lobby of the Parkway you feel as if you’d stepped right over the Atlantic. The lobby takes on the moods and life of the day which can change hour to hour of course. It’s life, and it’s real. The hotel itself older but cared for. The small size makes for an inmate atmosphere where you quickly feel part of a little community. You are located only a block off the downtown strip so if shopping and the strips nightlife appeal to you, you never need drive.
Oh, and then there’s the caboose… The first time I had ever visited the motel it was not long before I was lead into the Caboose. It’s been converted into a hotdog stand. There’s a great story in there that you should be sure to ask on a hot summer day when you have the time to while away the afternoon with a coke in one hand and a dog in the other.. And if you do happen to stay at the Parkway Motel, tell them, “Derrick the internet guy” sent you. It probably won’t get you a discount, but maybe it will lead to another good story.
