‘Adopt A Pet’ Features
Sauk County Humane Society Pets of the Week – Oct 25th, 2010

This week we have two amazing animals up for adoption. Sweet pea, a two year old unaltered Akita mix, is a gentle giant. She is calm, well behaved, and just an all around amazing dog. Just look at that big puppy dog face. Then we have Reba, a six month old altered female. She’s a black and white domestic shorthair who loves to play, climb, and sit on your shoulders. She has polydactyl feet or in other words has cute little thumbs on her front paws. They are both ready to come home with you and be the new addition to your family.

Sauk County Humane Society Pets of the Week – Sept 27th

Levi - Boxer Mix
Fall is upon us, and what better time to adopt that special addition to your family! It’s the perfect weather for housetraining and getting into a daily walk routine. Best of all, on those cold nights you can cuddle up on the couch with your new furry friend. Come check out these two and other available pets. We have lots to choose from at the Sauk County Humane Society, so you won’t leave empty handed.
Ellie May is 3 ½ months old, altered female. What a cuddler she is. The second she’s in your arms she starts to purr. She is litter trained and up-to-date on her vaccinations. She is ready for that Purrfect home.
Levi is a 3 month old Boxer mix, unaltered male. This little guy has already melted the hearts of the staff at the Humane Society. He already knows how to sit, walk nicely on a leash and is doing great on house-training.
The Sauk County Humane Society Holiday Open House is set for Sunday, November 7, 2010 from 9am till 4pm. We will once again have pet/people photos with Santa by Kahlow Photography. Photos will be by appointment, walk-ins welcome, but expect a wait. You can sign up for a photo time at the Humane Society. Times start at 9 am and will go until 4 pm. This is a fantastic opportunity to get those Christmas cards ordered. A sitting fee of $15.00, and amount due on all orders will be collected at the time orders are placed. Kahlow Photography will be donating $10.00 per sitting fee and all proceeds from packages to the Sauk County Humane Society. There will be a bake sale with goods prepared by the Boys and Girls Club, Christmas stocking decorations and tons of fun for all. So pack up the kids and come on out.

Sauk County Humane Society Pets of the Week – Sept 13th

Greetings weekly readers! As I write this the sun is shining brightly through my window and so I thought it only natural to take a closer look at some of the faces that brighten up the shelter.
What, you have no Homer in your home? Well, if it is lacking some loving, this stocky little fellow may be right for you. Homer is a young male Puggle, around a year in age, he has much to learn- but also much to share. Homer Puggle is great with other pets and desires a home that has plenty activity to keep a little busy bee a buzz. Happy Homer’s motto-Put some POW in your Pack with a Puggle!

Suzuki
Oh, the trials and tribulations of being a kitten. Here we see our ray of sunshine, Suzuki, in a wrestling match with a very unruly blanket. Suzuki is a young male, orange and white tabby. While he may not be bright in every way, (the blanket really was not talking back to him) he has a heart of gold and knows how to light up a room with his inquisitive and quirky personality.
Of course these are but two representatives of the many wonderful pets we have awaiting homes at the shelter. There are many ways to support these animals; become a SCHS member, consider adoption as an option, volunteer (we have the BEST volunteers around), or donate items from our wish list. In addition, support businesses that assist the shelter –there are a great many that provide free advertising for us such as the newspapers, radio stations, and many other organizations that allow us to put out our donation banks and barrels and post our adoptable pets. Sauk is a great community and working together things are getting better for the homeless animals in Sauk County!

Sauk County Humane Society Pets of the Week – Sept 6th

September has rolled in and so to have the beautiful autumn colors that can also be seen in our pets of the week. Charlie, a wonderful, happy-go-lucky, lab mix is our first to charm you this week. He sports a remarkable sunny, harvest gold coat with white accents and has a friendly glint in his eyes that says “happy to make your acquaintance”. Adorable and young,(around seven months and already neutered), he is affectionate with everyone he meets- two and four footed. Charlie is guaranteed to put some “zippity-do-da” back in your day!
Back to our focus on fall colors, check out our little girl Janie (right). Jane is a spayed female calico around four months of age. She comes in a lovely array of colors all spilling from a soft muted gray base that is splashed with pumpkin orange and puffy clouds of white, she is a delightful sight indeed! Perky and petite, she will easily win your heart with her kind disposition.
Hey everybody, here is a fun way to support the shelter animals; From September 1-September 30th, Maurice’s in West Baraboo will be collecting donations (both financial and pet supplies) all to benefit the Sauk County Humane Society-how cool is that? On Sunday, September 26th at noon Maurice’s at the Tanger Outlet in Wisconsin Dells will be hosting a fashion show to benefit the animals of Sauk County. Come on out and show your support!

Sauk County Humane Society’s SOS Day

Friday, September 3rd is the next Sauk County Humane Society SOS Day. On the first Friday of each month the shelter converts their education room into a temporary surgical suite where they will spay and neuter 30-35 cats and dogs in a single day. While most of the animals cared for belong to the shelter, reduced price spay and neutering services are also offered to low-income individuals who qualify. For more information contact the Sauk County Humane Society at (608) 356-2520 or visit their website at www.saukhumane.org.

SCHS Pets of the Week
Just a reminder that each week here at the Skillet Creek Journal we put a focus on the Sauk County Humane Societies featured pets. If we could we’d bring ‘em all home ourselves. Since we can’t do that of course, we join the Humane Society in asking if you may have room for one these guys who never asked to be in a shelter. It seems to us that if more folks would adopt shelter animals instead of spending so much money on pure breeds and pet store puppies the world would be a better place.
Also, please note as well that the society has a variety events coming up. May1st is the annual PAWS for a Cause & May 15th society is hosting a lecturer who will speak on the link between animal abuse and domestic violence, and May31st is the 1st annual Putts for Pets Golf Outing. Mark your calendar and join in the fun!! Contact the shelter for more information or go to our website at www.saukhumane.org. So with that, I’ll let the society tell you about this weeks pets…
March 5th – Today we put our focus on the letter “S”, and proudly present Samson and Spike- both are sure to meet with your approval!

Spike is an eleven year young, neutered male Siamese with front declaw-he is one of THREE Siamese currently at the shelter. Due to popular request, all of our neutered bachelor cats are temporarily half price-way less than what you would pay for the surgery alone. Neuter and Spay, it will make your pets day!
Samson is a young, Terrier mix-about a year old. (see picture above) He is a love, full of youthful exuberance and charm. Scrappy little Samson is a work in progress and will require time, training and patience-but he is ready and willing to work toward his diploma.
