Wolf Troubles? Look West.

Wisconsin now has a population of nearly 700 wolves, quite an increase since a 1980 survey which found only 25 wolves in the state. So it’s no surprise that there has been a lot of news coverage around the state regarding the latest report by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources which shows that wolf attacks on Wisconsin farm animals has nearly doubled between 2009 & 2010. Snow Train Weekend
It’s Snow Train Weekend over at the Mid-Continent Railway Museum in North Freedom. The 36th annual event will continue through Sunday. We invite you to visit their website for more details. Now as you probably know, these days MCRM trains are being pulled by an antique diesel engine instead of the classic steam trains of years past. Stop by next week and we’ll share more information about why that is, as well as when and if we can expect to see the steam engines return to the popular area attraction.
* The photo above was taken at a previous snow train event nearly 10 years ago. If you’d like to see more pictures from the Mid-Continent Railway Museum check out our Flickr Gallery here.

Winter weather exaggeration has become almost an art form. Like so much of the modern news media these days, even meteorologists feel the need to blow things all out of proportion in the futile hope that they will somehow stand out above the din. The bottom line for listeners, is that it’s becoming harder to translate all the hypertensive verbal acrobatics back into “news you can use”. Or is it? Read the rest of this entry »
Okey Dokey Smokey

Despite predictions of wet weather, a large number of people brought their families out to Mirror Lake State Park on Saturday for the annual Halloween Mystery Hike put on by the Friends of MLSP. Mother Nature rewarded attendees with a perfect autumn evening. As the sky darkened and a thin layer of fog grew out over the lake, the fires were lit, and cars began filling the lots. Anxious kids were running in all directions to see all the amazing Jack-O-lanterns that smiled and growled around the bonfires. Hot dogs, brats, cookies and other snacks were served as fast as the park friends could move. Read the rest of this entry »
Loads of Fun, Few Fall Colors for Wo-Zha-Wa
There will be loads of fun, but few fall colors when “Wo-Zha-Wa Days” kicks off tomorrow in Wisconsin Dells and runs through the weekend ( September 17th, 18th & 19th, 2010). W0-Zha-Wa is an annual event and includes an arts and crafts fair, antique flea market, marathon run, live entertainment, a 75-unit parade and more (And of course you’ll find plenty of food as well.) Festivities will be held in downtown Wisconsin Dells as well as at Bowman Park (Also located in Wisconsin Dells). Fall color watchers might see a few splashes of reds and yellows along the way, but as you can see from photo (above) taken at the Wisconsin Dells River Walk today, things are still pretty green. The real trick this weekend will be making the weather cooperate.
